An officer, you say?
Quite the accomplishment.
I imagine it must be difficult,
a woman in such a position,
leading men who must face
their way into death. Discipline
must weigh down on you, heavier
even than being alone
there in the black.
And I cannot understand
these fools who enlist.
No way to make a future
from signing your name to that line,
offering yourself as fodder.
I visited Russia once,
and let me say, the Russians,
they are proud people,
and stoic. It’s the cold, staved away
by fire and fur and vodka.
And how quaint, the Jews there,
keeping up all their traditions.
You will never find an organization
better family-bound than Psi Corps.
How could they avoid it,
all swaddled in the lull
of one another’s minds?
Let me tell you about love:
When real it’s
always requited.
You will know it when it finds you.
